Green Thumb?

ok, so i love plants/flowers and having them around my house and on my porch...BUT i always seem to kill them because i forget to water and maintain them. even so, i bought more this year...they were inexpensive and pretty low maintenance so hopefully they'll last at least a few months! :)

i bought some petunias
i lost the tag to these so i don't know what they're called...any guesses out there?and i'm going to attempt to keep this oregano plant alive to add some freshness to my pasta, pizza, and other saucesthere is one exception to my lack of a green thumb and here it is

this philodendron i got at the st. joseph's orphan picnic last fall and it will not die, not that i want it to! so if your experiences with plants/flowers are anything like mine have been, def. go with this hardy plant!

what are you growing?

yum, yummy!

This afternoon was soooo incredibly nice outside that my friend Leah and i took a walk down Frankfort Avenue. We stopped at a consignment shop called Margaret's to look at maternity clothes for Leah. They had some great stuff and their children's clothes were pretty reasonably priced as well...most stuff was around $5. After that we headed further down Frankfort to this fancy little dessert cafe called Sweet Surrender. We each had a piece of this amazing chocolate oreo cake and it was amazing and so rich that we should have just split one piece! I highly reccomend this place, even though it is rather pricey...every once in a while you should treat yourself ; )

This weekend is the big kick-off for the Kentucky Derby festivals...tomorrow is what they call: "Thunder Over Louisville". I blogged a little about it last year too...but it's bascially the largest air and fireworks show that you've ever seen. It's a REALLY big deal around here and everyone looks forward to it all year. So hopefully I'll have some pictures to post before the weekend is over.

That's all for now! Hope you're having a great Friday!

Emergency Preparedness

I usually don't post about such practical things like this; but since it's my blog, it's my rules. ;)

AND, after the experience I had last night, it's a great reminder for all of us to be aware of our surroundings and able to react in a positive way if something should come up.

So anyways, last night (or rather, this morning) around 2:30 the fire alarm went off in the 2nd floor hallway of our apartment building. It's the first time it's happened since we've lived here...and of course it freaked me out! Luckily Braden is a calm and fast thinker! He got up, dressed, and went out the door to investigate...needless to say, everything was fine. No fire, just a downstairs neighbor who was smoking WAY too many cigarettes than humanly possible...we concluded that she must have been having a bad night to be up at such an ungodly hour smoking like a chimney!

After everything was clear, we settled back down to go back to sleep. I, of course, couldn't help but think of all the bad scenarios if there really was a fire when the alarm went off and what I would do if I was home alone, and so on. But then I remembered that I'm not allowed to play the "What If" game, cause that could go on forever.

Ok, so moral of the story is that this is a good reminder for us all to go over with our families the things we need to be prepared for in case of an emergency.

Here are two websites that can help you and your family think and come up with a plan for different types of emergencies. I'm sure there are many more out there, but it's a start!
